Types of Tests Often Required

- Pre-Placement: For driver applicants or current employees transferring to a CDL position
- Post Accident: Required within 32 hours of an accident that involves a fatality, bodily injuries, and/or disabling damage resulting in driver citation
- Random: Selection for drug and alcohol testing without prior notice
- Reasonable Suspicion: For when a trained supervisor or company official has reason to believe employee has violated the prohibitions of CFR 382 based on appearance, behavior, speech, or body odors of employee
- Return-to-Duty: After a positive drug or alcohol test and SAP program, substance abuse professional releases driver to employer for subsequent testing before employee can return to safety-sensitive duties
- Follow-Up: After Return-to-Duty, employer directs driver to complete at least 6 unannounced tests in addition to random and post-accident testing during first 12 months back at work
